Does ExtendaClyns have alcohol?

No...thus, it's non-flammable, and doesn't dry out skin like alcohol based sanitizers after repeated use. Also, it has a lasting effect that alcohol does not have. ExtendaClyns has a moisturizer added to the formulation that makes the skin feel supple and soft after each use.

How does alcohol dry the skin?

Alcohol is a flammable solvent that extracts the natural oils from the skin, a process sometimes called "de-fatting." Loss of these natural oils makes your skin dry, cracked and inflexible. Thousands of small "micro" cracks are caused by each application of alcohol products and could increase susceptibility of infections.

Are alcohol products effective?

Yes, but not as effective as BAK since BAK has a broader spectrum. Independent tests show that even c-diff spores are killed with BAK but are not killed with alcohol. Alcohol at 62% to 67% will kill germs on your skin for approximately 10 seconds. However, you will have no anti-bacterial impact going forward like you do with ExtendaClyns.

What is benzethonium chloride?

Benzethonium chloride is the active ingredient in ExtendaClyns. This ingredient is a quaternary ammonium compound and has been around since 1938. It is FDA approved and is safe and effective as an active ingredient in first aid antiseptic products. It is highly effective as a first aid antiseptic at a relatively low concentration, but unlike the commonly used ingredient alcohol, benzethonium chloride also exhibits conditioning properties that soften the skin. The formal chemical name and chemical structure for this complex quaternary ammonium compound are as follows:
N,N-dimethyl-N-[2-[2-[4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenoxy]ethoxy]ethyl]benzene-methanaminium chloride.

Does ExtendaClyns get absorbed into the skin?

No. The active ingredient benzethonium chloride is a Quaternary Ammonium Compound (QUAT). QUATS do not absorb into the epidermis, fats or deep tissue. ExtendaClyns has an active ingredient dilution of 0.1%. QUATS are very effective at low concentrations. The FDA specifies a concentration range of 0.1%-0.2% as safe and effective for benzethonium chloride when used as an active ingredient in first aid antiseptic products.

The active, Benzethonium chloride (BAK), is a FDA approved ingredient in the OTC monograph as a hand sanitizer and a first aid antiseptic.

Has the CDC approved the use of ExtendaClyns?

The CDC recommends that students and staff be encouraged to wash their hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. The CDC recently stated that "If soap and water are not available and if alcohol-based products are not allowed in the school, other hand sanitizers that do not contain alcohol may be useful." Therefore, BAK can be used according to the CDC.

Can ExtendaClyns be used to replace MyClyns?

It is a perfect compliment to MyClyns - ExtendaClyns for every day use, and MyClyns for use in a pathogenic exposure.

No. Alcohol-based products are infamous for staining, and as widely known throughout the hospital industry, alcohol hand sanitizers, when dripped on to the floor, actually break up floor wax and remove nail polish. ExtendaClyns is safe for all surfaces and does not remove nail polish as well.
