Anti-Theft Features

Slash Proof Security Straps

Two strands of high strength stainless steel wire are embedded within the shoulder straps of the Toursafe to prevent slash and grab thefts.  This feature is important when riding on subways, trains, or other crowed locations where thieves can easily cut the strap of a regular handbag and flee. The wire reinforced security straps are sewn deep into the body of the purse reinforced strength.   The security shoulder straps are fully adjustable from 25 inches to 43 inches/64-110cm.

Slash Proof Front Panel

The TourSafe incorporates PacSafe’s patented “eXomesh” security technology feature into the front panel of the bag.  This prevents cut and run thieves from cutting the front of the purse with a razor or knife to extract items without your knowledge. The lightweight eXomesh feature provides a layer of stainless-steel wire mesh which is sandwiched between the bag's materials.

Slash Proof Bottom Panel

PacSafe really thought about security with this feature.  For years, skilled thieves have been known to slice the bottom of women’s bags without their knowledge.  PacSafe solved this problem by placing the eXomesh security feature in the lower section of the bag.  This security feature prevents the bag's bottom from being slashed.

 Tamperproof  Zipper Lock  

The PacSafe TourSafe incorporates a tamperproof zipper as another way to thwart pickpockets. The TourSafe's tamperproof two-piece zipper security system locks your zipper closed. Simply zip your purse, then activate the spring hook to keep your zipper locked, now you have peace of mind that your contents are secure. 

Is purse slashing a problem that I should worry about when traveling?

Google the “purse slashing” and you will see numerous pages which talk about thieves who specialize in using razor blades to slice open the backs or bottoms of purses and backpacks without the knowledge of their owners. 

The frequency of “bag slicing’ crime was noted on the United States Department of State – OSAC Travel Advisory Reports. 

 The following is a small portion of the Government’s web posting, as reported by travelers to our US Consulate and Embassy.  Note that this is just one country quoted, however you will find this same problem has been reported in numerous cities around the world.

Pick-Pocketing - Well-organized pickpocket rings are a continual problem in Italy. Generally, pickpockets work in small groups of two or three individuals. One or two individuals distract the victim while another thief comes from behind and snatches the wallet or cuts a woman’s purse and steals the contents. The most common type of pick-pocketing involves a woman’s purse being cut, generally where the zipper meets the fabric, or the slashing of the interior pocket of a man’s jacket or even the front pants pocket.

Other popular methods involve the pickpocket simply colliding with the victim and snatching the wallet or having an accomplice drop items at the feet of the victim to create a distraction. When the helpful victim bends down to assist in picking up the items, a second thief comes from behind and commits the theft. Most pick-pocketing

To protect a purse from “purse slashers” The TourSafe Handbag includes the PacSafe patented eXomesh Slashguard feature. A layer of stainless steel wire mesh is encased in the lower section of the bag to prevent contents of the bag from falling out when cut. 

The security mesh is sandwiched between the inside and outside fabric of the purse.  The mesh is extremely flexible and is virtually undetectable.

Why does my purse need a slash proof security strap?

As the Department of State Travel Advisory commented above, purse slashers target both the body and the straps of purses.  Think how easy it is for a thief to cut the purse strap from behind when worn.  Even if you began to detect the odd feeling of the purse falling, by the time a traveler were to react and turn around, the “17 year-old track star thief” would be half-way down the train station platform.  Sewn and embedded into each TourSafe handbag is stainless steel wire to prevent slash and grab theft.

This feature also is a great benefit when the Toursafe Handbag is set down on and the detachable shoulder strap and snatch-proof anchor is utilized. 

If a thief were to try and grab your purse off a chair, the steel cable embedded within the shoulder strap provides additional strength for the strap so it will stay secured to the chair.  A fabric purse strap without the steel cable is more vulnerable and will easily be ripped from the location where it is attached to the purse body.

The shoulder strap of the Toursafe is fully adjustable.  The strap can be shortened allowing it to be carried as a hand held bag, or lengthened to its maximum length of 48 inches allowing it to be worn in its most secure position, around the shoulder, and across the body.  

For added comfort the shoulder strap of the TourSafe included a 6 inch long by 2 inch wide pad which is used for added comfort.  This pad is removable by unsnapping two metal snaps that are underneath.

The shoulder strap is finished with brushed nickel metal finish buckles and security clips.

Padded Electronic Gadget Pockets - 2

These pockets are great for holding cell phones, iPods, or other electronic items.  The pocket is 4 inches wide, 5 inches deep, but can hold items up to 7 inches in height.  This is an “open top” style slide-in type pocket. 

Credit Card Slots

Four card slots allow for quick and organized access of business, credit, or identification cards. 

Pen Holders

Two slide-in pen holders allow for quick access of writing implements.

Large Internal Zippered Pockets 

Located within the purse are two zippered pockets that are great for securing passports, tickets, or other items that demand an additional security layer.  On one side (inside the main compartment) is the larger compartment hold items 5 inches tall by 10 inches wide.  On the other side is the second pocket which is slightly smaller and holds items 5 inches tall by 8 inches wide. 

Built-In Key FOB Holder

Included in the smaller inside zippered pocket is a permanently sewn-in Key FOB.  This quick detach clip device is great for providing “quick access” to an extra set of keys.  Almost everyone has had to search their purse in an attempt to find their “extra key” and only finding it when they dump all of the bags contents out – problem solved.

Large Slide-in Pocket

Located on the outside back of the TourSafe Handbag is one large slide-in pocket.  This is a great pocket for carrying maps or other thin objects that do not demand extra security.  Note water bottle pocket on left side.

Material

The PacSafe TourSafe Handbag is made from Grosgrain, which is a tightly woven fabric with narrow horizontal ridges.  The material is very sturdy and has a natural crispness that allows the bag to keep its shape.  The outward appearance of the material tends to be slightly formal, however is very comfortable in a casual setting. 

The inside material of the bag is a brightly reflective Lilac color that aids in locating items in dark environments. 

Care of Material

The TourSafe Handbag is easy to care for and clean.  Use mild detergent and soft hand cloth to clean and air dry.
